Process Engineer

PolyVation is looking for a Process Engineer with a strong affinity and/or experience with equipment typically used in chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Ideal candidate possesses at least basic knowledge of polymer chemistry and has a pragmatic and hands‑on approach to solve challenges of process technology. You will work in a quality driven environment according to ISO 13485 and GMP guidelines. Therefore, precise and careful execution of your activities with attention to detail is needed to safeguard quality compliance. In addition, writing reports, equipment qualification documents and performing well‑documented root‑cause analysis is an integral and significant part of the day‑to‑day activities. 

Our Company

PolyVation is located in Groningen (NL) and is an ISO 13485 certified and GMP compliant company specialized in customized synthesis, development and manufacturing of specialty polymers for advanced biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. The company has a relatively young team of over 40 highly qualified technicians, engineers, scientists, analytical and equipment specialists and (project) managers. The polymers we make result in new breakthrough products for replacement or healing of tissues, or treatment of chronic diseases by local controlled release of medicine. With our work, we improve the quality of life of numerous patients all over the globe.

Your main activities

  • Equipment design, qualification and performance testing
  • Work in inter‑disciplinary teams dealing with process upscaling
  • Perform engineering and validation runs and act as a point of contact for further training of new operators
  • Provide technical expertise and advise on setting up new and improving existing processes
  • Troubleshooting of manufacturing processes
  • Timely communication of any process deviations and other aspects that could possibly effect manufacturing processes
  • Calibration and maintenance of process equipment
  • Keeping manufacturing areas operational and in compliance with our quality system

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) in daily shifts. As processes sometimes demand longer days, some degree of flexibility is expected. For some processes, your presence could be required in evenings or during public holidays, on site or in consignation duty. The work conducted in the evenings, weekends and public holidays is regulated by good compensation program.


Your background

  • BSc or MSc in a relevant field (chemistry, chemical engineering, laboratory technology or similar)
  • Prior experience in manufacturing in a similar capacity (medical, pharma, biotech or specialty polymers/chemicals industry) (highly preferred)
  • Excellent problem solving capability
  • Good communication skills
  • Good level of reading and writing in English, knowledge of Dutch language is optional and appreciated
  • Work precisely and carefully execute tasks with attention to detail
  • Familiar with operations under a quality system (preferred)
  • General computer and software proficiency
  • Proactive and eager to learn
  • In case of non EU citizen: in possession of a work permit.
